congrates to all feeding babys!my 7month old just doesnt want to take any bottle predominately the haberman has been used.its so frustrating i know his capable cause at times he wil go a few weeks here and there and suck up to 150mls. He now just chews the teats teething seems to be the prob but frustating knowing what he can do and the whole process of initiating the bottle for 15min before we ngt him and and all he does is play or chucks tantys. Im out of reasons! Every baby teeths so letting him off and just tube him like his speech therapist insist on makes me feel like a failure. His been like this with his solids as well at the moment its all good his going hard just doesnt like yogurt or curtarer which is a pain. On a good bottle week we took tube out he was going really well for 4 days then decided to go cold turkey because of teething!ive tried weaning ive tried demand feeding for a consecutive 2 deeds a few times over which has worked imitally but typically his inconsistant pattern kicked in. So every time we get somewhere we fall behind.noah has cleft soft n hard palet due for op when his 1. Pls anyone else out there got child behavioural feeding probs.my med feed team dont believe in tube dependancy.but its weird my baby does not cry when his hungry its like he doesnt link up the need to drink when hungry. Ps we always initiate bottle every feed apart from here and there. Pss at my wits end! Kind regards deb..
Our little boy has a soft and hard cleft and he has had us jumping through hoops with feeding, so I feel for you Deb. Like your bub he does not seem to want to have his bottle - he is a twin adn his bro screams for the bottle but A does not. We did get the tube out after lots of stopping and starting with the haberman and other bottles. He feeds best with the habermann now when he has bitten a hole in the end and instead of tiny hole it is much bigger. But we have had periods where he has refused the habermann too - so its been tricky. Now we use the Habermann for milk and the Nuby Natural Touch Bottles for water - again he has bitten a bigger hole in that too. So it's been a roller coaster and we only got him off the tube at 9 months by the fact that he loves custard and it was also time for us to drop a feed too. All the milk he wont take with the habermann - we make up with custard powder and he loves it. Have you tried that ?- because we found he couldn't take all the milk from the haberman as he got too tired drinking...plus he spilt a hell of a lot too - we always give him more milk than his bro as he spills quite a bit from the habermann. We also have been practicing feeding him with a flexi cup - see this site - http://www.ilcaustralia.org/home/search4.asp?state=SA&page=9&MC=31&MinC=30
You can squeeze it as you pour so you can be more accurate and you aim for the lip just before the teeth - it takes practice - we are still only learning and A is 13 months old.
I hope that has been of some help to you..I check this site out quite a bit so pop back in and tell me how you get on. Caz
