Has anyone out there had weight gain issues after the ng tube removed? Alice lost 200g after the ng came out, then it took her 3 months to get that back. Then after her cleft operation she lost 200g again, now 3 weeks later she has lost another 20g. Does anyone else have problem with their bub gaining? She eats and drinks ok and never complains of hunger. My dietician has now advised to keep a food diary so she can count the kilojoules she is taking. She has only just started to get weaned onto cows milk. Arrgghh!

We had the same thing when our son's tube was taken out too. He is an ID twin and so we can see how his weight is different to his brother (who does not have PRS)as they used to be the same when he was tube fed. He has had his tube out for 5 months and he is still 500grams or more less than his bro. Aidan has his repair in March so I expect like Alice he will be further behind his brother in weight. Aidan is not under weight at the moment, just less that his bro.
I forgot to mention we give Aidan lots of cream and cheese and butter in an attempt to keep his weight up.

All the best with the weight gain :)

Hi,

My little one is now 12 months old and apart from when she was first born has always been underweight. She had her palate surgery 3 and a half months ago and like your little darling lost weight....I have spoken to so many health professionals about her weight and they have each told me to stop worrying about it as she is still eating, drinking and acting like any other baby it is just that her body burns up a lot more fuel than others!!!! Though still I worry that I am not giving her enough I have relaxed a bit knowing that I am doing my absolute best and I guess that is all we can do with our bubs.

Anyway good luck with it....I think we are all experiencing the same issues with our bubs so it is good to know we have a place to share similar stories.

Take care!!
